English Class Volunteer Orientation

There are thousands of Hispanic families within a few miles of Heartland. The ESL ministry seeks to provide a service to the Hispanic community by offering free access to English instruction and practice. Adults with any level of English competency are invited to join the group. This is one way Heartland Espanol loves on our community and hopes to help Spanish speakers find and follow Jesus.

Volunteers are needed in two specific areas:

  • Language helpers interact with learners to help them practice the skills taught in the class. We need both table leaders and assistants. It’s a great way to meet new people and make friendships.
    • NO Spanish needed.
    • NO teaching experience required.
  • Childcare helpers play with their children while the parents are in class. This is the first year we are offering childcare and we think it will make it much easier for students to attend class consistently.
    • NO Spanish needed.

To volunteer as a coach, come to the orientation on January 12th. ESL classes begin the following week and will meet every Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Heartland in the A-100 room. The fall session will be 11 weeks long.
