Change for a Dollar: Veteran’s Memorial Hall & Motherhouse Crisis Nursery

Every weekend the people of Heartland drop a dollar or more into the Change for a Dollar water bottles located throughout the mall. 100% of the donations we receive go right back out to the community, or sometimes around the world.

Because of your generosity, we raised $648.00 last weekend! Those funds have been given to two great local organizations here in Rockford.

Veteran’s Memorial Hall

Veteran’s Memorial Hall hosts a 2-day program to recognize Black History Month and honor the African American veterans who fought in WWII. This program allows those in attendance to: 1) hear veterans tell firsthand accounts of their service, and 2) to be inspired by their stories of valor and patriotism. This will all happen on February 18th & 19th from 1-4pm.

Motherhouse Crisis Nursery

Motherhouse Crisis Nursery provides short term services to low-income families experiencing crisis such as homelessness, domestic violence, medical emergencies, joblessness, or drug addiction. They also provide longer-term family support to help stabilize the family, education, counseling, and many other critical services.

Motherhouse had to turn away families 470 times last year from utilizing their services due to capacity. They are currently moving to a larger facility so they can decrease their turn-away number and serve more families. The money donated will be enough to buy a stove for their new, larger facility.

Thank you for partnering with these two great organizations. Keep dropping your loose change in the buckets every weekend and we’ll keep making change together!
