If you are interested in traveling to NC to get involved in Hurricane Matthew relief, read this letter from Kerry L. Dodson, the National Volunteer & U.S. Programs Manager of Operation Blessing:

After a long week of watching and preparing for Hurricane Matthew, the storm made landfall in McClellanville, SC as a Category 1 hurricane tearing a path of destruction and flooding from Florida to Virginia. Operation Blessing has worked with emergency management officials and pastors up and down the East coast to identify the area of greatest need and have set up ourbase of operations in Fayetteville, NC where flash floods resulted in many homes damaged or destroyed, 700 people rescued and at least 4 people missing.

Volunteers are needed to help sort through flooded debris, salvage belongings, and mud-out and gut homes – removing soggy sheetrock, flooring, etc. to help homeowners prepare to rebuild. Operation Blessing will provide tools, safety equipment, and lunch. All we ask volunteers to provide is their own transportation to/from the work site and a heart to serve their neighbors in need.

Local/Day Volunteers

If you are local to the Fayetteville area and do not need volunteer housing, you can report directly to Volunteer Check-In MondaySaturday at 8:30 AM at Covenant Love Church, 420 Dunn Road, Fayetteville, NC.  Please arrive 15-20 minutes early to complete your Volunteer Registration. All volunteers must be 18 years or older.  Safety equipment and tools are provided, but please wear long pants and sturdy hard-sole shoes/work boots.

Volunteer Housing

Volunteer Housing will be available beginning Friday, October 14th. Operation Blessing will provide housing, meals, tools and make work assignments. All we ask volunteers to provide is their own transportation to/from the work site each day. All volunteers staying in volunteer housing must be at least 18 years old and serve in teams of at least 2 people. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the requested arrival time. To request volunteer housing, please give us a call at 757-226-3407 or email us at volunteer@ob.org with your name, phone number, dates requested, and number of team members. We will return your call within 24-48 hours. We appreciate your patience as we experience high call volume.

Thank you for your continued support of Operation Blessing and prayers for those who have been affected by this catastrophic storm. We appreciate your heart to serve those in need and to walk alongside those who have lost so much.

God Bless,
Kerry
