There are dozens of opportunities for you to join a volunteer team here at Heartland. Scroll down through these ministries to get an idea of what is involved and how you can be a part of it all. If you’d like more information, click on the contact name—they’ll get right back to you.

Traffic Team

You can be a part of a group—a team—and be the very first person at Heartland to make visitors and Heartlanders feel welcome as they drive onto the campus. You’ll help people find a parking space and get them in and out of the parking lot safely and quickly.

Your smile can make all the difference in how they feel about coming to church.

Traffic Teams gather before their scheduled service for a time of community, and then put on their orange vest and head out to the parking lots. Even in rain and snow, these people love what they do.

Those who serve on the Traffic Team:

  • Love to make people feel welcome at Heartland
  • Commit to serve one day every three weeks
  • Agree to arrive at least one hour prior to the first service on the day you serve

First Impressions

You can be a part of a group—a team—that makes everyone coming to Heartland feel welcome and appreciated. Your smile can make all the difference in how they feel about coming to church.

The First Impressions Team gathers before their scheduled service for a time of community, then hands out bulletins, helps people find a place to sit, distributes communion (about once a month) and receives the offering.

Those who serve on the First Impressions Team:

  • Love to make people feel welcome at Heartland
  • Commit to serve at one service – with the same team – every three weeks
  • Agree to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the service

Launch Kids

You can be a part of a team that makes a lasting difference in kids’ lives. Our mission: help kids know what it means to be a Christ-follower and learn how to follow Him in their daily lives. Wow—now that’s a reason to get to church every week!

You don’t have to be an expert in kids or the Bible. But we can promise that you will find a place to serve that fits you perfectly. Here are just a few of the areas to peak your interest:

  • Check-in
  • Welcome new families
  • In-room host to help direct kids and activities
  • Small group leader
  • Tech support
  • Up front host/leader
  • Worship leader
  • 1:1 Companion for kids with Special Needs
  • Set building
  • Video editing
  • Craft preparation

Worship Team

If you’re a singer or musician or both and would like to help lead Heartland during the weekend experiences, this might be the place for you.

You could be a part of the team that participates in each of the five weekend experiences, as well as a rehearsal during the week. You can audition online or schedule a time with one of the ministry leaders. There are also opportunities in Student Ministries, Launch, and Celebrate Recovery.

Those who serve on the Worship Team:

  • Love to use their gifts and musical talents to lead and serve others
  • Agree to serve at each of the experiences on their scheduled weekend as well as a Thursday night rehearsal

Production Team

The Heartland Production Team, through the use of state of the art sound, video, and lighting, works to create powerful and transformational experiences for Heartlanders week after week.

On the Production Team you will have a hands-on role in making that happen. Whether it’s running a camera, playing a video, controlling the song lyrics, or managing the stage, you have an IMPORTANT part of creating professional-level productions, and in turn touching hundreds of lives in the process. The best part—you don’t have to be a professional—we train you from the ground up!

Those who serve on the Heartland Production Team:

  • Enjoy serving behind the scenes
  • Always wondered what the heck all those “cool” people in black shirts at concerts, on film crews, and at TV shows got to do backstage
  • Are able to serve about once every three weeks for all of the services EITHER on a Saturday or Sunday

Sharestuff

The stores offer quality merchandise, both new and used, to the Greater Rockford Area at affordable prices through Sharestuff and Sharestuff Furniture & More.

Sharestuff provides different ways for you to serve in a retail environment. Monday through Saturday:

  • Loading and unloading donations (must be able to lift over 30 lbs.)
  • Merchandising
  • Must love customer service
  • Be available for a 3-4 hour volunteer shift at least once a week

Student Ministries

Student Ministries is committed to helping students from middle school through college find and follow Jesus.

We are always looking for people who want to invest into the lives of students and help them grow spiritually and personally. If that interests you, this could be the perfect place for you!

Those who serve as small group leaders in Heartland Student Ministries:

  • Love to mentor and build ongoing relationships with middle school, high school or college students
  • Commit to serving with the same group of students for at least a full year
  • Attend weekly services, small groups and leader trainings

There are also opportunities to serve in areas such as:

  • Check-in
  • First impressions
  • Worship team
  • Tech support

The direct care team works behind the scenes providing help and hope to those who find themselves in a rough season of life.

Heartland Cars

The Heartland Cars Ministry provides a creative way for you to help individuals and families at Heartland gain the transportation they need to get back on the road to financial independence.

Even if you’re not a mechanic, there are plenty of ways to serve and get connected with other believers.

Everyone Benefits. Those in need receive dependable transportation to help them get to work, doctor’s appointments, church, school and daycare. You as the volunteer get to repair vehicles, feel good about helping others, and experience community. Everyone Wins!

After Service
Response Team

A Ministry of Direct Care

If you would like to provide a safe environment where individuals, couples, and families can take a step toward their church for help and prayer in the moment, then serving with the After Service Response Team could be for you.

Team members make themselves available immediately following a Heartland service to meet one-on-one with people, to help them gain a clearer picture of how Heartland can help, and to understand God’s desire to take care of them in the midst of life’s storms.
Those who serve on the After Service Response Team:

  • Enjoy meeting with people on a more personal level
  • Feel comfortable talking and praying with others
  • Are available on a consistent basis around one of the services

Compassion

A Ministry of Direct Care

Are you wired to come alongside someone when they’re facing a financial storm? You can be part of a team that provides holistic care to help individuals and families get their lives and finances on a healthier path.

Those who serve with the Compassion Ministry enjoy working with people in the midst of life’s struggles; love problem-solving with individuals to help them take spiritual, relational, and financial steps toward sustainable life change; and embraces the opportunity to work within a dynamic team that meets twice a month to serve those in need.

Opportunities with Compassion include:

  • Serving as a team member who helps individuals develop a plan for bringing stability to their lives
  • Serving as a care coach to walk with an individual for a season as they implement their plan
  • Serve as a member of the administrative team (e.g., making phone calls, processing paperwork, scheduling meetings)
  • Be that welcoming face for participants by serving as part of the hospitality team

Prayer Team

A Ministry of Direct Care

You can be part of a team whose desire and mission is to pray for those in Heartland who have an urgent need. These needs are distributed by email and those on the team are able to pray over them as their schedules allow.

Groups

Would you like to gather and help people who are trying to be intentional about developing friendships and growing spiritually? Lead or host a group! Groups help people meet other Heartlanders, and the conversations and activities foster friendships and spiritual growth.

You can lead or host a group of people you are meeting for the first time or you can gather friends and acquaintances to create your group. Heartland Group’s staff will provide you with guidance to make the experience one that best fits you and the people in your group.
There are two primary Group serving roles and the two work together as a team:

  • Leader—the person who organizes the group and facilitates the conversations
  • Host—the person who creates the environment for the group (whether that is in a home, the church or someplace else)

Connection Center Team

The Connection Center Team offers assistance and direction, in a warm and friendly manner, to those that seek it during the weekend experiences.

Serving with the Connection Center Team could include pointing people in the right direction, helping people register for ministry events, and answering questions—all of which help people feel welcome and comfortable right when they walk in the door.

Marriage Matters

Table Leaders benefit from the content of the Marriage Matters workshop while at the same time serving a small group by facilitating their discussion around the table.

Marriage Matters is a 7-week workshop for individuals and couples that combines practical teaching with small group discussion around common issues that cause struggles in marriages.

Table Leaders in Marriage Matters:

  • Still have room to grow, but have enough of a level of health in their own marriages to be able to help others along in the process, too
  • Lead a 45 minute discussion at their table following the teaching each week for the 7-week workshop, plus attend a short leaders meeting afterwards each week (about 2 hours total)
  • No other outside work or preparation is required each week

Rebuilders

Table Leaders benefit from the content of the Rebuilders workshop while at the same time serving a small group by facilitating their discussion around the table.

Rebuilders is a 7-week workshop for people that have been through the pain of a divorce combining practical teaching with small group discussion around common relational issues and struggles as they relate to their previous marriage.

Table Leaders in Rebuilders:

  • Still have room to grow, but have enough of a level of health in their own life and divorce to be able to help others along in the process, too
  • Lead a 45 minute discussion at their table following the teaching each week for the 7-week workshop, plus attend a short leaders meeting afterwards each week (about 2 hours total)
  • No other outside work or preparation is required each week

Events Support Team

Be part of a team that handles event registration and check-in, as well as special projects throughout the year.

Flowers & Decorations Team

You can be part of a team that creates weekly flower arrangements and centerpieces for the mall, as well as special projects and seasonal decorations throughout the year.

People who serve on the Flowers and Decorations Team:

  • Are creative and either already know how to build arrangements using fresh flowers, or enjoy learning!
  • Like to create a welcoming and warm environment
  • Enjoy developing table themes and arrangements to coordinate with weekly messages and events
  • Likes flexible serving times according to their availability
  • We gather every Saturday from 9:00-11:00 but we say, “Come when you can and leave when you must!”

English as a Second Language (ESL)

If you are interested in joining a team focused on relationship building and effectively improving English language skills to adults in our community, welcome to the Heartland English Class community.

Partnering with Heartland en Español, we assist students with no English abilities through those mastering advanced skills. We utilize volunteers with any educational or experience level. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Table leader or table assistant during our Saturday afternoon class
  • Prayer team
  • Curriculum creation team
  • Marketing team
  • We are also always looking for eager volunteers to assist in our many administrative duties that can be done throughout the week
